‘Simple’ Snoring linked to Stroke!
Simple snoring is not so simple… Within seconds of commencing snoring, your body stops producing Nitric Oxide. Nitric Oxide is required to keep your arteries supple and healthy and without it your arteries are prone to damage hence increasing your chance of stroke in later life.
What treatments are available?
There are three main treatments available for people who suffer from SDB:
Pressurisation machine (CPAP)
Oral Appliance Therapy (OAT).
Whilst no one treatment is suitable for everyone, each one has its pros and cons. Surgery is expensive, irreversible and unreliable. CPAP (where one wears a face mask of a night time) whilst considered the ‘gold’ standard in the treatment of SDB is still expensive and has a very low compliance by users; meaning that it the majority of people tend not to use it and therefore it becomes completely ineffective.
